Know Your Town

Ledyard Library is taking sign-ups for this year’s Know Your Town series! This is a 7-week series where you get a behind-the-scenes look at our town departments. Attendance at all events is recommended. Collect a raffle ticket at each event and be entered into a drawing for prizes at the end!

All of the events are listed below. You will need to register for each event that you plan on attending.

Sunday, September 15 at 2 PM: Nathan Lester House, 153 Vinegar Hill Road (Gales Ferry)
The Mayor and Town Council will discuss Ledyard’s governmental process, Town Historian, Kit Foster will provide a brief history of the town and Corey and Rebecca Tenant, caretakers of the house will give tours.

Thursday, September 26 at 6 PM: Emergency Services, 11 Fairway Drive
Russ Shaw, Administrator of Emergency Services, Jim Mann, Fire Marshall and American Ambulance will discuss emergency services in town.

Saturday, October 5 at 9 AM OR 11 AM: Ledyard Police Department, 737 Colonel Ledyard Highway
Chief John Rich, will conduct two tours of the Ledyard Police Department at both 9 AM and 11 AM. Please register for ONE of these times.

Saturday, October 5 at 1 PM: Ledyard Up-down Saw Mill, 172 Iron Street
James Sweet and Vincent Godino from the Ledyard Historic District Commission will demonstrate the Up-down Saw Mill.

Thursday, October 10 at 6 PM: Ledyard Senior Center and Parks and Rec, 12 Van Tassel Drive (Gales Ferry)
Scott Johnson, Parks and Recreation Director will talk about the restructured Senior Center and Recreation Department and Karen Goetchius, Municipal Agent and Administrative Supervisor of Ledyard Visiting Nurses Association will discuss health services available through the town.

Thursday, October 17 at 6 PM: Ledyard Town Hall, 741 Colonel Ledyard Highway
Dog licenses to building permits! Patricia Riley, Ledyard Town Clerk will discuss the services provided in her office. Elizabeth Burdick, Ledyard Town Planner will discuss the Land Use Department.

Jay Hartling, Superintendent of Ledyard Public Schools will discuss the Ledyard School system.

Wednesday, October 30 at 6 PM: Ledyard Public Library (Bill Library), 718 Colonel Ledyard Highway
Meet John Bolduc, Chairman of the Ledyard Library Commission. Gale Bradbury, Library Director and Lisa Murno, Assistant Librarian will discuss the library’s online resources, downloadable books and other library programs. Andrea Buka, Head of Tech Services and Archivist of the Janice W. Bell Local History Room will provide a tour and overview of the room.
