Teen Space

Looking for Volunteer Hours and want to help improve services for you and your peers?

Join our new Teen Advisory Board!
We value the voices and feedback of the young adults in the community and want to hear their ideas for what programs and services we should offer.  We are meeting once a month for three months starting in June on the fourth Thursday.  Thereafter, we will meet quarterly.  Positions on this board are open to students entering 7th grade and older and you will earn community service hours for your participation.  If you are interested in joining please reach out to Mrs. Burt at sburt@ledyard.lioninc.org or register here for our first meeting on June 25th at 3:00 via Zoom.

Teen Volunteering Program

Looking for more ways to get volunteer hours?  With the help of the Teen Advisory Board we have come up with some fun ways for you to earn those hours even as we are social distancing.  If you have any questions or would like to participate please contact Mrs. Burt at sburt@ledyard.lioninc.org

Online Book Buddies:   Participants will meet online via Zoom or Google Meets to read a couple picture books or a chapter of a book each time you meet.  Teens will earn at least a half an hour of service for their time but it could be more depending on the length of the story.  Please apply to be a book buddy by contacting Mrs. Burt.

One Bag at a Time Clean Up Initiative:  We all can work together to make Ledyard and Gales Ferry better, cleaner places.   For every large bag of trash you pick up you will receive 1 hour of volunteer time.  Send a photo of you and your bag(s) of trash to Mrs. Burt.  Please include your full name in the email.

Instagram Book Reviews:  Post a book review on Instagram!  Your review must include: 1. A photo of the book   2. The author/title in the caption   3.  A reason you are recommending the book  4. Tag the Ledyard Public Library’s Instagram account @ledyardpubliclibrary.  Each review is worth one hour of service.  If we like your review we may share it on our page!

Dungeons and Dragons Online Edition

Have you ever wanted to give Dungeons and Dragons a try?  This is a D&D group for beginners and it will be a classic high fantasy campaign.  We are keeping it small to start with but we need at least three or four players to make it work. There are six places available and once registered you can stop by the library to get your character page and set of dice—that are yours to keep!  Available on a first come first served basis.  Register on our Events Page to receive the Zoom meeting link.

Online Book Club

Calling all book lovers!  We are starting a teen book club as a way to connect and share our love of a good book.  Our first meeting is on July 14 at 7:00 pm.  We will meet via Zoom to discuss what our first book will be and set the time and date for the next club meeting.  Bring your ideas for what book we will read first—bonus points if that book can be found on Hoopla!  Register on our Events Page to receive the Zoom meeting link.
